‘Overwhelming’ response

Friday, July 31

Organisers of an appeal for reading books and sporting gear to replace resources lost in Cyclone Pam, which swept Vanuatu early this year, have been “overwhelmed” by the response.

The appeal is being co-ordinated by Oamaru women Jacquie Webby and Sally Austin, who visited Vanuatu in May and saw schools that are struggling to re-establish lessons and sporting pursuits following March’s devastating cyclone.

Miss Webby said the appeals had shown that people in Waitaki had big hearts when it came to helping those less fortunate.
