Oamaru residents will be able to show the community what they are grateful for this festive season by leaving a note on a Christmas tree.
The Oamaru Opera House and the Oamaru Mail have joined together to present ‘The Gratitude Tree’, which would be on display at the Oamaru Opera House foyer for the next few weeks.
Everyone in the community was encouraged to write a note of gratitude and place it on the tree.
Oamaru Opera House marketing manager Kiriana Glasson said it was nice to be able to do something caring with the community.
People often forgot to be grateful living in such a lovely place as Oamaru, she said.
Each day, one gratitude note will be chosen to be published in the Oamaru Mail and uploaded to Facebook for voting.
The three entrants with the highest number of votes will win a double pass to their choice of show at the Oamaru Opera House in 2014.
Notes can be anonymous but entrants must provide their full name and a contact email address.
People are also welcome to place a small Christmas treat under the tree, which will be donated to the Orwell Street Church for its community Christmas lunch.
Gifts need to be something useful for the event, such as food, and should be unwrapped.
Visit www.facebook.com/OamaruOperaHouse to vote for the best note.
The tree will be in the Oamaru Opera House foyer until December 18.
