Sharpest town en route to fame

We all know Oamaru is New Zealand’s sharpest town, and now Ritchies Coachlines is letting the country know.

Richies manager David Lott said the company was spending $13,000 to repaint its bus, so took the opportunity to promote Oamaru.

“We thought, ‘why not put a nice picture of Oamaru on the back to advertise to the rest of the country?'” he said.

The bus will be featured in Saturday’s Santa Parade.

Yesterday, the new Waitaki District Council took the bus for a spin around town.

The trip around Oamaru involved the council visiting infrastructure throughout the area, viewing some of the areas where development was happening and taking a look at the Oamaru Harbour and Lookout Point.

Waitaki Mayor Gary Kircher said the trip allowed the council to become more familiar with the area they were responsible for.

“It’s a great chance for the council as a group to see some of the areas we’ve actually taken responsibility for and become better acquainted with them,” he said.
