Students getting into the Maori spirit

MAORI CULTURE: Chiba Girls’ High School, of Japan, got into the Maori spirit at Waitaki Girls’ High School yesterday, by dressing up in piu piu to experience what Maori women used to wear and singing some Maori songs.The students, who arrived last Friday, are here for nine days and taking part in a range of different activities around the Waitaki region. They were officially welcomed at the marae in Moeraki yesterday and are heading around the old precinct area today. Tour organiser Raeowna Rush said it was fantastic fun having the Chiba students at Waitaki Girls’ High. The students leave on Sunday.
