REMEMBERING A FORMER PUPIL: Three girls from Waitaki Boys’ High School place coins down to remember Isabel Clark, a former WGHS pupil and a nurse from Ardgowan who drowned on the Marquette in October 1915 when the ship was torpedoed off the Gulf of Salonika.

More than $300 was raised by the school which will go towards a plaque and a tree which will be unveiled at a service held at the school on October 23, to remember Isabel and her skills as a nurse on the ship.

All the pupils at the school placed a coin on a ‘we will remember them’ mural.

Waitaki Girls’ High School arts co-ordinator Sherilyn Hellier said the plaque was important to the school.

“It’s special because we need to remember all the work that the women actually did in regards to the war.”

The school is holding a special service at the school at 2pm today to remember the fallen.
