The Otago Regional Council is considering whether they are responsible for flood water drainage in the Totara area and are likely to present their decision at a meeting on September 22 in Dunedin.
Doug Brown, Otago Regional Council councillor, said he will be attending the meeting along with district council representatives.
“Something needs to be done.” he said.
“We are checking out our responsibilities and seeing where they lie.”
Mr Brown said regional council were responsible for identifying natural hazards like sea level rise and tsunami risk, but said the case of flooding in the Totara area was ‘unusual’.
Regional council staff will be up to visit the site soon, he said.
