An Oamaru restaurant has won a prestigious food award for the third year in a row.
Northstar Restaurant received the 2014 Excellence Award from Beef + Lamb New Zealand.
Northstar Restaurant executive chef Pablo Tacchini said it was really good to have won the award for a third time in a row.
“It gives us a lot of motivation to keep going.”
“We have a really good team over here at Northstar.”
The chef has had a busy time recently after picking up the role as executive chef of the Brydone Hotel’s T-Bar Restaurant and Brasserie two months ago.
“It is quite a big challenge.”
However, he has had wonderful support from Oamaru Licensing Trust management Cathy Maaka and Justin Ludlow who gave him complete freedom, he said.
Mr Tacchini had great plans for the T-Bar Restaurant and was hoping to enter both restaurants in next year’s awards.
Northstar Restaurant’s winning dishes were rosemary and garlic ribeye with cauliflower fritters, potato dauphinois, roasted red pepper salad and dark ale jus, and roasted merino lamb rump with agria potato croquet, green peas, mint salad and dried beetroot crust.
Beef + Lamb New Zealand chief executive Rod Slater said the programme, which had been running for 17 years, is still valued among restaurants.
“The fact restaurants still take such pride in being named an award holder is testament to the programme’s credibility.
“This award really is a guarantee to customers they will receive a consistently top quality beef or lamb meal when they choose one of these restaurants.”
The award was only given to restaurants that had beef and lamb dishes which reached the highest standard of fine dining.
