Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean has been confirmed as chair of a new Government taskforce formed to cut the red tape around housing and property regulations and local rules.
Mrs Dean said she was delighted with her appointment which has a potential to create real changes for rural communities, including property owners, builders, tradespeople and rural businesses.
“The new taskforce is about getting rid of the stupid rules and regulations that affect people’s lives by adding delays and expense to development projects, both large and small.
“To this end I urge people in urban communities, including farmers and developers to make submissions.”
Mrs Dean said over the next few months there will be a variety of ways to engage with the taskforce including making online submissions and by attending targeted meetings around the country.
The MP, accompanied by local MPs, would also visit building sites throughout the country.
People wishing to make a submission can do so by visiting www.govt.nz/rulesreduction.
