Three cases of hepatitis A have been confirmed in Oamaru.
Southern District Health Board medical officer of health Dr Marion Poore said the cases were confirmed in the last six weeks.
“The source of these cases is part of an investigation,” she said.
She said one case is linked to the recent outbreak in Ashburton but it is still unknown about the two other cases.
Waitaki District Council recreation manager Eric van der Spek said although two patients were local development swimmers, there was no risk to swimmers at the Waitaki Aquatic Centre.
Mr van der Spek said water testing was carried out every three hours at the swimming centre.
Dr Poore said the Waitaki Aquatic Centre is operating as required.
“There is no evidence that the Oamaru Aquatic Centre is the source of these cases of Hepatitis A and therefore no increased risk to users of the pool,” she said.
“There is no need to avoid using the pool.”
