Health Minister Jonathan Coleman’s decision to sack the Souther District Health Board (SDHB), which funds Waitaki District Health Services Ltd (WDHS), is not unexpected, Waitaki Mayor Gary Kircher says.
WDHS, a Waitaki District Council-owned company, operates Oamaru Hospital.
Dr Coleman informed the board yesterday its services were no longer required and has replaced it with a commissioner, Dunedin legal consultant Cathy Grant, who takes up the role today.
