Contest aims to snap precinct

Oamaruvians and tourists alike are being encouraged to get out their cameras and snap their best shots of the precinct before Friday.

The Oamaru Whitestone Civic Trust is running a photo competition via the Oamaru’s Victorian Precinct Facebook page.

Organiser Frances Mcmillan said the winner of the competition will be used as the page’s banner for a month.

They hoped to hold the competition each month for a new banner.

There are a lot of people who are taking photos in the precinct but these photos aren’t often seen or shared so having a competition like this would get the photos out there, she said.

“It’s a perfect space for all the photographs.”

Anyone wanting to enter can take a photo anywhere in the precinct from the harbour to the Forrester Gallery.

These needed to be uploaded to the page or could be entered by using the hashtag #victorianoamaru on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Each entry could be publicly voted for by visiting Oamaru’s Victorian Precinct on Facebook.

The competition began on January 1 and will end on January 16 but voting won’t finish until the 21st.
