An 18-year-old Oamaru woman appeared in the Oamaru District Court yesterday on charges of resisting and obstructing police, after a man being sought by police was found hiding in her ceiling.

On November 20, Oamaru police spoke to Lacey Christina Macahan about the whereabouts of Shannon Berryman, a Dunedin man wanted by police.

On Tuesday, police received a report Berryman had been seen entering Macahan's cottage.

Macahan told police that Berryman was not at her address, and repeated that statement several times.

When police told Macahan they would search the ceiling, she obstructed their search, yelling and fighting with Oamaru police Constable Warren Duncan.

Berryman was found in the ceiling and arrested for his probation warrant, for a breach of community detention.

Judge Joanna Maze convicted Macahan and ordered her to come up within three months if called upon, for two charges of resisting and obstructing.
