Damage to the sports fields at St Kevin's College overnight on Sunday is an "absolute disappointment" for principal Paul Olsen.

Police said a vehicle had been driven over the sports fields at St Kevin's College damaging turf. It happened some time between 6.30pm on Sunday and 6am on Monday

Mr Olsen said vandals had been pushing the boundaries at the school.

"We're really disappointed when our grounds get damaged like this because we pride ourselves on our grounds and sharing with others," he said.

"The groundspeople have repaired some things, but as always, it's an absolute disappointment."

Mr Olsen said North Otago Cricket had put a huge effort into making sure the school had a quality cricket pitch which could be shared with the community.

"We've just started to get the grounds looking really good," he said.

Mr Olsen requested help from the community to report anything suspicious happening at the school.

"I'd love to see the community become the eyes and if they see anything out of the ordinary to report it," he said.

He urged people to call police if they saw vandals at work.

St Kevin's College caretaker Allan Grant said money spent on repairs would be much better invested elsewhere in the school.
