North Otago angus cattle breeders Neil and Rose Sanderson have topped the angus section at the 2012 Beef + Lamb New Zealand Beef Expo held at Manfeild.
Mr and Mrs Sanderson, who run their angus stud near Ngapara, sent three bulls and one heifer calf to the event and now all four have new owners.
Topping the angus section of the annual show and sale was Fossil Creek Lightning 2-10, who was shown successfully as a calf.
His new owners, Tangihau Station, paid $24,000 for the bull Mrs Sanderson described as being close to structurally flawless.
"He was a stand-out as a calf and was exhibited with success at the Fairlie Show," Mrs Sanderson said.
"His temperament is outstanding and we are very satisfied with the price we received for him.
"Fossil Creek Lightning is a half brother to Fossil Creek Update, who was the 2008 Beef + Lamb New Zealand Beef Expo Champion of Champions," she said.
Fossil Creek's two other bulls, Fossil Creek Yalta 29-10 and Fossil Creek Yari 26-10, sold to the Herrick Brothers for $8200 and $8500 respectively.
The stud's only female offering, Fossil Creek Pride, who participated in the Queen of Hearts show and sale, was sold in the post-show auction to Lynmar Farms for $4000.
