Community groups up for awards

The TrustPower Waihemo Community Awards winners will be revealed on Monday, with organisers receiving a record number of nominations.

The awards will be presented at the Waihemo Lodge in Palmerston from 5.30pm.

A record-breaking 24 voluntary groups and organisations were nominated for this year's awards.

As well as category winners, the supreme winner will be announced at the ceremony.

The winning organisation will take home $500, a trophy and an all-expenses-paid trip to the TrustPower National Community Awards, held in the Western Bay and Tauranga districts in March.

The supreme winner will also be filmed by a TVNZ6 crew to feature in a new series of Volunteer Power, which recently filmed Oamaru's League Of Victorian Imagineers.

The community group winning the top award will also receive a six-month subscription to Fundraising in New Zealand magazine.
