Ewe fair promises quality stock
Farmers looking for quality stock should have plenty to choose from at next Monday's Oamaru ewe fair.
About 3500 head will be offered for sale through PGGWrightson, Whitestone Livestock and Rural Livestock at the Waiareka saleyards.
The sale will start at 1pm, following the weekly stock sale at 10am.
PGGWrightson auctioneer and livestock manager Mark Yeates said the line-up of sheep was one of the best he had seen.
"The quality of the young ewes and the capital stock is very, very good this year," he said.
"Anyone looking for young ewes or capital stock should be well satisfied with the vendor offerings at this sale.
"Buyers will certainly get quality stock at reasonable prices, particularly the two-tooth ewes and shouldn't hesitate to buy with confidence."
Among the ewes will be capital stock in full wool from RE Ewing of Kauru Hill and high production capital stock coopworth ewes from the Rocklands Partnership of Teschemakers.
KM and AE Fitzpatrick of Fuschia Creek will offer romney-cross and romney tauranganui two and three-shear capital stock ewes and RJ and CT Strowger of Waianakarua will yard 75 Coopdale two-tooth ewes.
"The Kuriheka Estate will also offer their annual draft which this year comprises 400 five and six-year-old corriedale ewes," he said.
"For farmers looking for quality stock, this sale represents some of the best I have seen for a long time."
