Getting excited over cricket
North Otago's young cricketing talent will be showcased today during a Festival Day at Centennial Park.
Eight schools will be converging on the cricket fields from 10am until 2pm today.
St Joseph's School, Ardgowan School, Omarama School, Weston School, Pembroke School, Fenwick School, Totara School and Papakaio School have entered teams, made up of eight year 5 and 6 boys and girls each, into the competition.
Games are eight overs per side, with each player bowling an over and each game is expected to take about 45 minutes.
North Otago Cricket Association coach Tim McCormick said there were some talented young players rising through the ranks in the region.
He said the festival day was all about getting children excited about cricket.
"We want to make sure they keep playing," McCormick said.
