Hubbard crash hearing delayed
The court case against a man charged with causing the death of Allan Hubbard has been postponed after a prosecution review of evidence.
The vehicle Mr Hubbard was a passenger in, driven by his wife Jean, was involved in a head-on collision with a four-wheel-drive utility truck towing a trailer, driven by Andrew John Earl, 40, of Milton, on State Highway 1 at Hilderthorpe, about 8km north of Oamaru, on September 2, 2011.
Earl has maintained his not guilty pleas to a charge of careless driving causing the death of Mr Hubbard, 83, and careless driving causing injury to Mrs Hubbard, 82.
Oamaru police Detective Dan Keno said the case, scheduled to start on December 3, had been postponed.
"It's just to allow further inquiries to be conducted as a result of a prosecution review of evidence to date," Mr Keno said.
A nominal date in February 2013 had been set, Mr Keno said, but a fixture date was yet to be confirmed.
