The North Otago Junior Year 5/6 Rep team took an impressive win over Dunedin Gold on Sunday at Awamoa Park.

Joshua Camplin stood out to compile an impressive 139 not out in North Otago's 222 for 6.

The 11-year-old showed batting ability well above his age and handled the hot weather remarkably well over the 35 overs.

Camplin's fantastic effort was helped along by some strong partnerships with Ben Paton (12), Andrew McKenzie (5), William Smillee (10), James O'Reilly (9), in his first rep game, and Ben Mavor (7 not out).

Despite the loss Dunedin Gold attacked well to get 161, a considerable improvement from their last outing where they were bowled out in the 20s.

North Otago coach Blair Camplin commended the opposition's efforts and the level of cricket on show. "It was a really good game. Josh [Camplin] put in a really good performance but the whole team played well," he said.

"They [Dunedin Gold] really came back at us, so well done to them on a huge effort. One thing I noticed by both teams was some fantastic keeping, 14 byes off the bowling was quite incredible with 3 only for Dunedin. Otago cricket is so well served for keepers."

The team will be in action again in the new year in the South Island Primary Schools Tournament from January 7-13.
