Limbered up for Borton Cup
The Borton Cup is back this weekend with Union hosting Valley at King George Park, WBHS 1ST XI entertaining Oamaru and Albion taking on SCK 1ST XI.
Rainy conditions put an end to proceedings last weekend but the teams are eager for the action to resume tomorrow.
Union skipper Thomas Shields remained diplomatic regarding the holder's chances against Valley, the two sides have been hard to separate in recent years.
"I wouldn't say we're confident but we'll give it a good go. We've pretty much got a full team but we've been pretty even over the last few years, we like to be the underdogs otherwise you get over confident," he said.
Valley all-rounder Geoff Mavor is hoping the weather behaves and expects his side to cause Union problems.
"It was frustrating last week, so hopefully the weather holds out.
"It's the strongest side we've had in a few seasons so it'll definitely be competitive."
Oamaru captain Ben Coleman is well aware of the challenge ahead of his team and said containing slogger Stephan Grobler is the key to taking something from their clash.
"It's all about respecting the good ball against Waitaki Boys' and taking advantage and punishing the bad ball. It'll be about taking the wicket of Stephan Grobler he's always very dangerous," he said.
Play begins at 12.30pm for all matches.
