Two successful Murder Mystery evenings raised a total of $500, which will now help restore the Nichols Blacksmith Shop in Duntroon.

Last Thursday and Saturday nights, the Friends of Living History held A Fatal Affair at the North Otago Club.

Guests were treated to a three-course meal, while the audience met the Victorian suspects of a "heinous crime", ad-libbed by local actors.

Living History NZ director Scott Elliffe said because it was such a success, further Murder Mystery evenings were now planned.

"North Otago is richly blessed with its heritage sites and the Friends [of Living History] are delighted to assist in the realisation of another significant project in the district," he said.

"The trustees believe the experience of entering the forge will be little different to that of its 19th century origins, which opens a marvellous window on the past."

The Victorian-themed Murder Mystery evenings played over two nights to "capacity audiences" and were choreographed by Sherilyn Hellier, of The Drama Company.
