Santa's little helpers were busy assembling parcels for 89 families yesterday.

Each parcel includes food appropriate for Christmas celebrations and gifts for children and adults.

Co-ordinators Adrienne and Mark Wylie said families receiving parcels this year were in hardship or desperate need.

"All together 89 families were nominated and will be receiving parcels," said Mr Wylie.

Families were nominated by various welfare organisations.

"This is an increase of 20 per cent on the number of families that received parcels last year," he said.

"[It is] an indication of the increasing financial difficulties faced by many families."

Mr Wylie thanked all of the people who contributed to the parcels.
