Repeat drink driver jailed for 15 months
A 26-year-old Oamaru man was handed a 15-month prison sentence in the Oamaru District Court yesterday.
Matt Morrell Dunjey, 26, unemployed, appeared facing charges of drink driving, driving while disqualified (third or subsequent), failing to stop for police (third or subsequent) and dangerous driving. He also faced two charges of breaching prison release conditions.
Dunjey has 11 previous drink-driving convictions - nine as an adult and two as a person under 20 years old.
On November 2, at 12.09am, Dunjey sped off from a marked police vehicle on Towey St.
As he sped away, he hit the kerb, regained control of the vehicle but stopped and took off on foot.
He recorded an excess breath alcohol level of 722mcg.
Dion John Ward, 28, unemployed, of Oamaru, was convicted and sentenced to eight months' imprisonment for perverting the course of justice, by giving his brother's details when found to be driving while disqualified on three occasions.
On November 10, 19 and 21, Ward was found driving while disqualified in Dunedin. On each occasion he gave his brother's details.
A 20-year-old Oamaru woman who recorded an excess breath alcohol level of 1205mcg at 8am on New Year's Day was sentenced in the Oamaru District Court yesterday.
Nikita Sherborne-Munro, 20, of Waitaki Bridge, crashed her Mazda vehicle on Glenavy-Hilderthorpe Rd. She subsequently failed to accompany an enforcement officer when required to do so.
For driving with an excess breath alcohol level of 1205mcg, she was convicted, sentenced to three months' community detention, six months' supervision and disqualified from driving for eight months.
On charges of failing to accompany an enforcement officer and careless operation of a vehicle, she was convicted and discharged.
Karl Scott Fraser, 31, textile worker, of Oamaru, was convicted and fined $300 for stealing fingerless gloves (valued at $8.99) from Fraser's Superette on January 15.
Shane Liam Brown, 18, dairy worker, of Oamaru, was convicted, fined $200 and disqualified from driving for driving while suspended on Ferry Rd on February 18.
Poutou Kirby Cameron, 21, factory worker, of Oamaru, was convicted, fined $1000 and disqualified for nine months for driving with an excess breath alcohol level of 796mcg on Derwent St on February 17.
Dwayne Peter Carey, 22, freezing worker, of Oamaru, was convicted and fined $300 for disorderly behaviour on Thames St on February 17.
Bradley James Kernahan, 33, freezing worker, of Oamaru, was convicted, fined $650 and disqualified from driving for six months for driving with an excess breath alcohol level of 908mcg on Wharfe St on February 24.
Wakatoa Kewene Shaw, 17, freezing worker, of Dunedin, was convicted, fined $200 and disqualified from driving for six months for driving on Thames Hwy while suspended on February 18.
Michael Colin Wederell, 39, bricklayer, of Oamaru, was convicted and discharged for trespassing at Northside New World on February 16.
