The career aspirations of St Kevin's College Year 13 student Sean Hand have been boosted by a $2000 North Otago Federated Farmers-National Bank rural tertiary scholarship.

Sean was awarded the scholarship ahead of seven other applicants, all of whom were assessed by representatives from Federated Farmers, the National Bank and Rural Women New Zealand.

Last year, Sean won the national Lions Clubs' International Young Speechmaker contest and, this year, helped set up a Leos Club at St Kevin's College.

Sean plans to go to Lincoln to do a Bachelor of Agriculture Commerce degree, specialising in valuation.
