Siblings' sports dominance recognised at awards
The sibling duo of Connor and Ellie-May Sandri have made their mark on a number of sports this year.
Former WGHS student Ellie-May was named senior Sports Dux at Waitaki Girls' High School.
The starlet showed her class on the hockey pitch, captaining her side and scoring 67 goals this season.
The 17-year-old was selected for the North Otago Women's team and voted player of the year.
Sandri also dominated on the badminton court, remaining undefeated for the WGHS team that took the Aoraki Secondary School Championships as well as picking up the girls' badminton title at Aoraki Sports Awards.
Not to be outdone, Connor Sandri picked up 1st at the U17 Aoraki SS Downhill Mountain biking champs with the fastest time over all age groups, and a winner's medal in both the Intermediate Boys' Individual at Otago Southland SS Triathlon and the Individual Otago SS Duathlon.
The Waitaki Boys' High School Junior Sportsman of the Year was also a finalist at the Aoraki Secondary Sports Awards, in both mountain biking and multisport.
Both athletes look to be following in the footsteps of their father Mike Sandri, who is also an accomplished triathlete.
