Negotiations to settle payouts for 192 employees of Summit Wool Spinners who will lose their jobs at the end of the month are close to the final outcome.

Following a meeting last Friday between management and representatives of the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union and First Union, negotiations to secure some further enhancements for the initial redundancy packages were successful.

A further meeting was held yesterday and according to EPMU spokesman John Gardner, agreement has been reached with the employer and the outcome will now be relayed to staff members.

"There will be a further meeting on Friday afternoon."
