Two riders die in crash

Two people have died as a result of a collision between a car and two motorcycles on the Lindis Pass, near Omarama, yesterday.

State Highway 8 near Goodger Rd was closed until about 5pm yesterday, when it was re-opened to a single lane at the scene of the fatal crash.

Police confirmed that two male motorcyclists had died as a result of the collision, which occurred about 2.16pm.

One person with serious injuries was flown to Dunedin Hospital by helicopter after the crash.

Emergency services, including Omarama police and the Otematata fire service attended and were joined by a serious crash investigation team.

The cause of the collision was still being investigated last night.
