Waitaki 10 receive service awards
Ten outstanding Waitaki district residents have been recognised in the annual Waitaki District Council Citizens Awards.
This year's recipients include residents of Oamaru, Palmerston, Hampden, Herbert and Kurow.
The recipients are Carl "Barney" Barton, Gordon Johnsen, Barbara Jopson and Isabel McLew, all of Palmerston; Sally Ann Donnelly, the late Dawn Murphy (posthumously) and Ivan Emslie of Oamaru; Marion Partridge and Reg Partridge of Herbert/Hampden, and John Sturgeon of Kurow.
Waitaki District Mayor Alex Familton paid tribute to all the recipients of the awards.
"There are a great many people in our district who provide, or have in the past provided, long and unselfish service to many areas of the community and yet these people are often unknown outside the areas to which they have given such unstinting service," he said.
"The Waitaki District Council Citizens Awards are a wonderful opportunity for nominators to get together and put forward a nomination for that special person who embodies that spirit of community and service.
"This is something of which all our recipients share."
The awards took place on Tuesday at the Opera House Inkbox.
