Well tooned Cars rev up interest in parade
Oamaru is a long way from Radiator Springs, but Lightning McQueen, Mater, Sheriff and Sarge have made it here for the 2012 Waitaki District Christmas Parade.
Streeter Concepts Signwriting and Design owner Lance Streeter has been burning the midnight oil lately, signwriting cars to be as realistic as those from the Pixar movie Cars.
Yesterday, Sheriff, donated by Neville Bryant, and Sarge, who belongs to Rod Tempero, were attracting attention outside Mr Streeter's business, with several children waving to the cartoon lookalikes.
Mr Streeter is also offering a ride in the one and only Lightning McQueen during its run down Thames St for the Christmas parade.
An auction on Trade Me will decide the lucky winner, with all funds raised going to the Otago Childrens' Autism Trust.
If you miss out on winning the auction, all of the Cars vehicles will be lined up at the Friendly Bay playground after the parade and, for a small donation, you can get your photo taken with the vehicles.
All the donations from parade goers will be given to the Autism Trust.
Mr Streeter is still seeking cars that look similar to those from the popular movie, such as Sally, Ramone, Luigi and Guido, which could be signwritten for the parade.
"If anyone has a car they think looks similar to any of the cars on the movie, get in touch with me and I'll signwrite it up for the day with some removable vinyl - join the crew," he said.
