Computer scams target Waitaki residents

Police are issuing a warning about a variety of computer scams which appear to be targeting the Waitaki Community.
In the most recent incident, a Kurow woman is out of pocket more than $600US, and facing the prospect of having to buy a new computer, after falling victim to what appears to be an Uzbekistan-based computer scam.
Kurow police Constable Craig Bennett said he had received two complaints from local residents who had received phone calls from 00998 numbers, with diallers claiming to be Microsoft Operating Systems managers.
