Police in Oamaru will receive an extra detective to help deal with their heavy workload, Southern District Commander Superintendent Andrew Coster says.

The position was announced as part of the Southern District Police’s restructuring of investigative resources in the Otago Coastal area.

At present, the Oamaru Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) has one detective sergeant, two detectives, an investigations constable and a scene-of-crime officer.
