Police:

Police report traffic in Oamaru and up the Waitaki Valley was, for the most part, well behaved over the long weekend.

Senior Sergeant Jason McCoy said 80 per cent of people were “generally well behaved” with just 10 per cent spoiling things for the rest.

A suspended driver was charged with driving while suspended and failing to stop and he will appear in court at a later date.

Ambulance:

The Dunedin-based rescue helicopter attended an incident on Saturday evening in the Fuschia Creek area where a 16 year-old local male fell down a cliff into the river.

Oamaru St John Ambulance paramedic Lindsay Kyles said he sustained pelvic injuries and was eventually winched from the site after being moved by his colleague and Search and Rescue personnel to an area where the helicopter could successfully lift him out.

The patient was taken by helicopter to Dunedin Hospital, where he underwent surgery and was subsequnetly discharged.
