Motorcyclist dies after crash near Palmerston


The motorcyclist who was injured in a serious crash north of Palmerston on Sunday afternoon has since died in hospital.

The crash occurred in the Bushey area just before 3pm when the driver of a northbound Toyota Corona allegedly undertook a U-turn and collided with a motorcycle, also travelling north.

The motorcycle driver was Cameron Alexander Blaze Johnson (known as Blaze), aged 24, of Christchurch. He suffered serious injuries in the crash and was flown to Dunedin Hospital by helicopter. A police statement said he was later pronounced dead.

The 52-year-old driver of the Toyota Corona was taken to Dunedin Hospital with minor injuries. His passenger was not injured in the crash.

A serious crash investigator attended at the scene. Both vehicles were extensively damaged.

Police say their inquiries are continuing into the cause of the crash and charges are likely.
