The Labour Party candidate for Waitaki, Glenda Alexander, checked out her new Oamaru office on Friday.
Together with Dunedin North MP Dr David Clark, she visited her premises in Ribble St, which are yet to be officially opened.
Mrs Alexander will contest the Waitaki electorate seat against present National MP for Waitaki, Jacqui Dean, at the general elections later this year.
“We want to bring the voice of this community into the House,” she said.
Dunedin-based Mrs Alexander said some of the feedback she had received from the electorate concerned regional development issues.
“People have a sense of being neglected,” she said.
Dr Clark’s electorate has now cut into Waitaki and includes Palmerston, Moeraki and Hampden.
He had met Waitaki mayor Gary Kircher who expressed concerns to him about a number of issues including a drop in road funding.
“We need to look after our regions and support them,” Dr Clark said.
