There have been a number of positive and genuine offers on Oamaru’s railway station, which has been on the market for the past few months, real estate agent Stephen Robertson says.
LJ Hooker Oamaru agent Mr Robertson, who is managing the sale, said the sale by deadline ended on May 1 and proposals were being discussed by the Oamaru Whitestone Civic Trust.
“They’ll deliberate over the next week,” he said.
“I know the trust are very much mindful of the outcome being something that will be appreciated throughout the community.”
While he could not say how many or the nature of the offers, they had been positive and varied from national to international, Mr Robertson said.
“We’re really pleased with the responses we have had.”
The LJ Hooker Oamaru website states that the station, completed in 1900, is noted for its length and rusticated weatherboard exterior, which is in contrast to the stone buildings common to Oamaru.
The interior has been modified but the brick chimneys and fireplaces, along with their decorations, are intact.
