North Otago’s duck-shooting season is officially under way, with many birds bagged on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday morning, hunters were met by clear and calm conditions, suited more to the hunter’s prey than the hunters themselves, but conditions improved throughout the day and into Sunday, Fish and Game South Island communications advisor Andrew Currie said.
“According to the hunters and rangers I have spoken to, everyone has had a pretty good weekend. Hunters who had prepared well by feeding their ponds, and putting in the effort to ensure an effect decoy layout, reaped the rewards early in the first hour of the season.”
