North Otago heifers being shipped to China

SHARE

The second  half of the year is traditionally the busiest time for Austrex New Zealand as shipments of live heifers are consolidated, health tested and leave the country.

The company is the predominant exporters of dairy heifers sourced from the North Otago and South Canterbury regions.  The industry will look to ship about 50,000 head during 2014, virtually all to China.

Kurow’s Bruce Nowell, general manager of Austrex NZ, said individual Chinese customers of the company milk in excess of 250,000 cows each through more than 50 farms modelled on North American milking units.
