The SPCA will announce its future plans for Oamaru next week and it should be good news.
Executive officer Sophie Miskimming, of Dunedin, said they would reveal the future of Oamaru’s SPCA next Tuesday.
“There will be a fulltime person, also hopefully we’ll give you a fully functioning SPCA.”
North Otago SPCA merged with the Otago branch in October last year and the Stuart St shelter closed. Since then calls to the Oamaru office have been diverted to Dunedin and handled from there.
“It has put a strain on us,” Miss Miskimming said. “Basically we work with a vet in Oamaru.”
A Dunedin staff member also travelled through to Oamaru but with the new premises this would change.
“Before in Oamaru it was just cat adoptions but now we’d like to have an inspectorate. It will be a much better situation for Oamaru.”
Miss Miskimming said premises had been finalised and more details would be made known next week.
