SPCA won’t change in face of merger

North Otago SPCA is undergoing a restructure, which will result in merging with the Otago branch and new premises being built.

The shelter on Stuart St will close, but RNZSPCA South Island regional manager Steph Saunders reassures the community that the local service will continue, just with the support of the Otago branch.

“It’s time to close this facility,” she said.

“We’re looking to relocate into central Oamaru.

“We’re going to build a small facility.”

Due to the restructure, there will no longer be a North Otago SPCA committee but member Sylvia Spruce said this was seen as a new beginning for the local branch.

While the local branches wait for their new premises to be built, calls will be diverted to the Otago branch.
