Spaces are filling fast for this month’s ‘Active Kids Holiday Programme’ that begins on Monday.
Offered each school holidays, ‘Active Kids’ introduces primary and intermediate aged children to new sports and activities that they may not have previously tried before.
The summer programme, includes cricket, softball, croquet, gymnastics, Ki o Rahi, karate and ultimate frisbee.
Sport Waitaki Coordinator Kate Holland said she is pleased with the amount of community engagement involved in the summer programme.
“Each sport is taken by local clubs and or teams, this way children who attend the programme can create direct links with the sports, hopefully sparking an interest and joining the club, she said.
Ki o Rahi will be run by South Canterbury’s Greg Newton who has previously led Ki o Rahi at secondary schools in Waitaki, the ‘Active Kids Programme’ will provide an opportunity to showcase the sport to the younger age group.
‘Active Kids Holiday Programme’ is for 5-13- year-old students and runs from 9.30-12.30 from January 19-23 at the Waitaki Community Recreation Centre.
