Borton Cup opening round a washout

The 2013 Borton Cup got off to a damp start, with the opening round being abandoned due to the dismal weather.

Union won the toss and went to bat first in their tie with Valley but retired from the rain during the 18th, returning later, before abandoning in the 40th over, whilst Oamaru’s Josh Gutsell’s innings were ended prematurely in the 38th over during the Choccos’ clash with Albion due to the thunderstorm.

Newbies East Otago had a bye and the school clash between St Kevin’s and Waitaki Boys’ will be played at a later date.

All teams were awarded five points.

Saturday’s round two fixtures;

East Otago vs Albion, Waikouaiti.

Oamaru vs Bye

St Kevin’s vs Union, St Kevin’s 1.

Valley vs WBHS, Weston Park 1.
