North Otago Senior Tennis, North Otago Junior Tennis and Southern Sub Tennis, with support from North Otago Masters, have formed the new look this year.
The association’s commitment to a combined approach to deliver tennis to the region has been positive, with the intent of raising the profile of the sport in the area.
North Otago tennis has 170 registered players this season with the competitions having changed format. The Saturday Senior Competition, which was struggling for players, has now been moved to Thursday nights. This has seen the addition of an extra four teams and is now played at the Chelmer Street grass courts.
The masters are continuing to have their regular hit up on a Sunday morning at the grass.
Collegiate (high school) grade is played on a Wednesdays from 4 to 6pm at the grass with teams competing from all local high schools.
Twilight doubles continues to be popular and is played on a Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm of which a competitive yet social approach is the key to the success.
The Junior grade competition is played on Friday nights with teams made up of players from all schools and clubs in the region.
The club is also running a community hot shots programme for beginners which is held at the Waitaki Girls’ High School courts on a Friday afternoon.
