Climax coming for shield

Friday, June 26

Week 13 of the Oamaru Liquorland Citizens Shield will see Excelsior host Kurow, Valley entertain Athletic Marist and Maheno welcomes the Old Boys.

Last weekend’s fixtures produced the shock of the season so far as Kurow prevailed over previously unbeaten Old Boys in a 20-12 mudfest, while Maheno, which has yet to achieve a win this season, pushed third place Athies to the brink in a 34-32 thriller and Excelsior affirmed their shield winning credentials with a 68-25 demolition of Valley.

With the top four now established, and Old Boys comfortably at the table’s summit, the battle for second place and a more favourable play-off tie will be tightly contested over the next three fixtures.
