A winter sports day was held for pupils from Omarama, Twizel and Waitaki Valley at Duntroon School on Friday.
The Duntroon Winter Sports day is an annual event which features different sports for the children to try out. This year was no exception, with all 190 pupils giving every sport a good crack.
One of the favourite sports for the pupils was golf, something they had never played before, while taekwondo was another popular sport amongst the children.
Duntroon School teacher Kathryn Sim, who organised the sports day along with Kate Cartwright of Sport Waitaki, said the pupils loved the day.
“The weather was fantastic. It t played its part well. It was perfect for sport and the children just loved the chance to play a variety of sports.”
Sim said the sporting exchange between the schools was a chance for children from the area to do some sports and receive some coaching they may not receive otherwise.
“It’s about giving the kids some new sports to have a go at and some coaching from someone different.”
The sports day was for year 4-8 pupils and featured a variety of sports including golf, indoor bowls, ultimate frisbee, netball, basketball, football, rippa rugby, taekwondo fun sports and hockey.
A range of volunteers coached the pupils in the various sports.
