The North Otago Pony Club’s one-day event exceeded all expectations, deputy district commissioner Jo Hacquoil says.

Last month, the club hosted 120 riders from Christchurch to Southland for the one-day event, held over two days, in Oamaru.

The event consisted of dressage and showjumping on the Saturday and cross country events on Sunday.

Hacquoil said hosting the event was amajor achievement and organisers were proud of how it went.

‘‘It was great because we’re quite a small club,’’ Hacquoil said.

The last time the club held an event this big was 2019, and many events had been cancelled over the past two years due to Covid-19.

Paige Hacquoil (16) and Jane Paton-Smith were keen club members, who travelled to other events where they could. Most of the club’s other members were young up-and-comers, who were on lead ponies.

North Otago Pony Club hosts rallies on the second Sunday of each month. The next event will be on May 7.
