The Oamaru Harness Racing Club’s big Christmas bash is only days away.
On Saturday, December 7 at 11am, the gates open at Oamaru Racecourse for the club’s annual Christmas at the Races event.
Christmas at the Races event manager Scott Elliffe said people should come along for some festive fun.
“It’s a great family fun day out, so bring the picnic basket and a rug and prepare to be entertained,” he said.
There would be a variety of things on offer at the event, including food stalls, a children’s play area and an all-day performance by the band Chocolat, Mr Elliffe said.
The club had spent more than $2000 on the children’s play area alone, he said.
The club will also hold a reindeer charity race, the only one of its kind throughout all the country’s Christmas at the Races, to raise money for the Cancer Foundation and Canteen.
A silent auction will allow people and businesses to bid to own a reindeer in the race, Mr Elliffe said.
There would be horse races throughout the day for people to take part in, including an event for children under 13, as well as a Christmas hat competition for men and women with flamboyant, festive and fun hats, Mr Elliffe said.
The event is not BYO, Mr Elliffe said.
