North Otago’s new arrival Simeli Koniferedi turned out for the Highlanders on Friday night in a clash with a Southland XV.
The fixture against the invitational side was used as a hit out for the Highlanders ahead of their next Super Rugby match with the Crusaders on Saturday and took out the tightly contest tie 26-24. The 28-year-old climbed off the bench in the second half and said he thoroughly enjoyed the memorable occasion.
“It was a really good experience to play with some experienced boys,” he said. “It was a close game, the pitch was too quick but it was really good.”
The Fijian international has been playing his club rugby at Kurow this term is now looking ahead to playing for the Old Golds in the upcoming Heartland campaign.
“I’m really looking forward to it, to don that jersey for North Otago will be great.” he said.
