Gold look to return to winning ways

Premier division netball will begin with a clash between Excelsior and SKC Snr A at the Taward St Courts at noon tomorrow.

Blues put an end to Valley Gold’s unbeaten streak last weekend in a captivating 27-26 battle but St Kevin’s A produced an impressive display of their own with a 43-11 victory over SKC Snr B and will look to carry their form in to tomorrow’s encounter.

The 1pm tie will see SKC Snr B look to bounce back against Waitaki Wildfire who are coming off the back of a win over Athletic last Saturday.

Valley Silver and Athies will take to the court at 2pm, Silver were toppled 33-17 by Waitaki Lightning Strike in their last outing.

Valley Gold will be intent on returning to winning ways against Lightning Strike in the final encounter of the day after experiencing their first loss of the campaign last week.

Gold captain Abbey McKenzie said her side would be missing some key personnel through injury but worked on their structure in training last night to adapt to position changes more effectively.

“We will be working on our structure as a team in order to fix our through court attack,” she said.

“Valley Gold are carrying some injuries at the moment, with both shooters in doubt for the weekend. We will be working on filling those gaps at trainings and ensuring we adapt to positional changes better then we did last week.

McKenzie said Valley are expecting a tough match against Waitaki and will look to stop the supply to hotshot shooter Jennifer O’Connell.

“Both Waitaki teams are playing good netball and don’t seem to have been affected by the weeks off. We will be looking to try put pressure on early to slow the ball down and stop the easy feed into Jennifer O’Connell.”
