The North Otago Tennis Association Hot Shots Beginner Programme has proved a resounding success with 30 eager youngsters turning out Chelmer St Grass Courts last Friday.

The sessions are coach by Steve Dries and are still open to keen young players in the 5-10 age group.

Dries said the programme offers young players the opportunity to hone their skills while enjoying the sport with others of a similar age and ability.

“We had 30 kids there last week so that’s a good showing,” he said.

“It’s basically a hands on game based programme, I try and add a little bit of instruction with he essential skills that enable them to play the game.”

Dries said a good number of last year’s participants continued playing after the programme ended.

“Many of them last year went on to play competitively on Fridays and some made it through to the rep teams, so it’s a good path way to the next level,” he said.
