Former North Otago player Billy Guyton has been selected to the Hurricanes wider training squad following an impressive season.
The 23-year-old has been plying his trade at halfback for Tasman after joining as one of six newcomers at the beginning of the season which culminated in the Makos being promoted to the ITM Cup Premiership Division following a tightly contested 26-25 championship final win over Hawke’s Bay six days ago.
North Otago chief executive Colin Jackson praised Guyton’s work rate and said he believed plenty more were capable of taking the same route from Heartland level.
“We are thrilled for Billy and the outstanding progress that he has made this season with Tasman,” he said.
“Billy works very hard at his game and thoroughly deserves the recognition he is now achieving.
“Like Billy, there are a lot more Heartland players who are capable, if given the opportunity, to make it at ITM level.”
